The President of the United States said that he is closely following the development of events in this country after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise
US President Joe Biden called on Haiti’s political leaders to rally for the good of their country.
“The people of Haiti deserve peace and security,” Biden said at a White House meeting.
The President told reporter
s that he is closely following developments in this Caribbean state since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise last week.
Moise was shot dead at his home in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince in the early morning of July 7. His wife, Martina Moise, was seriously injured in the attack and taken to Miami, Florida for medical treatment.
“I sent a delegation of high-level experts to assess the situation and determine what support the United States can offer,” the president said.
The White House said a group of US officials from the Justice, Homeland Security, State Department and National Security Council arrived in Haiti on Sunday to help with the investigation.
Assistance is being provided at the request of the Haitian authorities.
